Willamsport Community Woodshop
Engaging with a community of fellow woodworkers enables you to learn through peer interactions and structured classes. The volunteers managing the Woodshop infuse the community with their passion, always ready to share their wealth of knowledge. Whether assisting in selecting the ideal wood species, advising on stable joinery, or imparting insights into wood movement and its potential impact on a project, our members and volunteers are generous with their expertise. Our robust community of volunteers and members is ready to assist you in advancing your project.
Woodworking enthusiasts aged 18 and above are welcome to join our community. Membership grants you access to a wealth of equipment and workspace and taps into a reservoir of knowledge that would take years to accumulate independently.

$80 monthly

15% discount for Pajama Factory Tenants, Veterans, and Students
50% discount for recipients of SNAP, PACE, or Medicaid benefits
Verification of discount eligibility may be requested.
Requirements for Membership
- All members must be 18 years old or older.
- All members must complete a fee-based Safety Training workshop before accessing the Woodshop.
- All members must sign a waiver of liability.
- Once membership has lapsed, former members are not permitted to use the Woodshop facilities. Former members can only use the Woodshop facilities after they reinstate their membership.
Important Workshop Rules
- All members must read and follow the Workshop Rules
- Members must provide personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, ear protection, and safety glasses.
- Members must follow any instructions provided by the monitor on duty.
- We are a “clean-as-you-go” shop. The member must clean all work areas before walking away from that area.
- We expect every member, volunteer, board member, and instructor to promote an inclusive educational and community environment.
Other Services
- Personal tool and equipment storage lockers are available for a fee.
- Domestic wood (walnut, oak, cherry, hickory, maple) is available for purchase by members
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Williamsport Community Woodshop provide repair or building services for individuals who are not members of the Woodshop?
The Williamsport Community Woodshop does not provide repair services nor design and build projects for community members. The nonprofit mission of the Woodshop is to provide education and facilities to individuals enrolled in our workshops and classes and members who wish to learn how to create their own crafted items.
Do I have to be a member to take a class or a workshop?
No, you do not have to be a member to take a class. The instructor will provide guidance on the safe use of all equipment required for the class.
What are the age restrictions?
You must be at least 18 years old to be a member or take classes in the woodshop.
Is training included in a Woodshop membership?
All new members are required to complete a safety training workshop that covers the basic use of the core Woodshop equipment, including the chop saw, band saw, table saw, jointer, and planer. The workshop is an additional fee.
Other members who are experienced woodworkers are often available to assist you in your projects, and a monitor is always on duty to assist with the proper use of equipment. Classes to further develop your skills are found under the Upcoming Workshops on this website. Email woodshop@factoryworks.org with other training requests.
Is wood included?
Materials are provided for all classes. Members must provide materials for their own projects. Lumber is available to purchase in the Woodshop.
What supplies do I need?
The woodshop provides a selection of router bits, saw blades, and drill bits. Sandpaper is provided for the drum sanders, spindle sanders, belt sander, and disc sanders. Members must provide their own sandpaper for the random orbital sanders and for hand sanding.
The woodshop provides Titebond I and Titebond III glue for your projects. You must provide any other glues.
Some finishes are available for your use. These are donated finishes and should be tested on samples before using them on your projects. It is recommended that you provide your own finish for any important projects.
All members must supply their own personal protective equipment.
What if I break something?
Members who damage equipment through accident, carelessness, improper use, or disregard of posted or published procedures will be charged for the cost of repairs.
Any user who activates the SawStop safety mechanism for any reason will be charged for the replacement brake and blade. In addition to human contact, wet lumber, plastic, and metal may activate the SawStop. Please talk to the Woodshop manager or monitor on duty if you have any questions.
What is the size of the Woodshop’s jointer, planer, and sander?
The woodshop currently includes an 8″ jointer, a 20″ planer, and a 25″ drum sander.
Can I tour the facilities to evaluate if I wish to join?
Tours are available during open hours. Stop by and ask the monitor on duty for a tour.
Do you offer any discounts to your membership rates?
A 15% discount is available to individuals who are active or honorably discharged veterans, current tenants of the Pajama Factory, or current college students.
A 50% discount is available to individuals who are currently receiving SNAP, PACE, or Medicaid benefits.
You may be asked to provide proof of eligibility for these discounts.
Do members receive a discount on Workshops or Classes?
A 25% discount is available for current members of the Woodshop for workshops and classes (excluding the Safety Training workshop).
Safety Training is provided at no cost for active or honorably discharged veterans.
Street Address
The Williamsport Community Woodshop resides at the corner of Rose Street and Memorial Avenue in the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, PA. Parking is available. Visitors are welcome to tour during open hours. No appointment is necessary.
